Knitted Genes
KNITTED GENES
Clifford Ward Memorial Prize 2004

This is an installation of 500 hand-made dolls
achieved with the co-operation of men, women
and children of all ages.

The idea started after a trip to Mexico when I
was inspired to make roughly sewn dolls based
on the shapes of Pre-Colombian clay figures.
The use of recycled knitwear emphasises
the connections we have with each other.

Talks and workshops are an integral part of
this art work which is still evolving.
